What We Believe
These statements of belief are the stated core beliefs of our church based on Scripture.
About the Bible
We believe the Bible, all sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired word of God. It is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice, and there are no other writings similarly inspired by God. In the Bible, we discover the life that God designed and desires for us to live now and into eternity. Therefore, we stand under the authority of God's Word for what we believe and how we live. (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
About God
We believe that God eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of deity. God created all things out of nothing and called His creation good. Therefore, we are called to care for his creation, both the physical earth and all of humankind. (Genesis 1:1,26; Matthew 28:19; John 1:1,2; 4:24; Acts 5:3,4; Romans 1:20; Ephesians 4:5-6; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
About Jesus
We believe that Jesus is both fully God and fully man. Jesus is the eternal radiance of God's glory, full of grace and truth and the very Word of God. He came to earth, was conceived in the Virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life. He died and rose again to reconcile all people to God and to free them from the power of sin and the devil. Jesus is not one of many ways to God; He is the only Way back to a relationship with God. He meets us at our point of need and invites us to experience a redeemed and reconciled relationship with God, not through our works but through faith. He will return someday and establish His rule and reign in His Kingdom. Therefore, we submit our lives to following Jesus daily, in every activity and in every relationship. (John 1:1-4, 14; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; John 14:6; Romans 9:5; Titus 2:13; Ephesians 2:1-10)
About Sin
We believe that all people, both male and female, are created in the image of God and, by God’s design, were created to live in perfect relationship with Him and each other. But our hearts have turned away from God, creating a separation and loneliness that flood our souls, leaving us empty and searching for something to fill the void. So while we were lost, broken, and far from God, God still loved us. Through repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven, our sinfulness is replaced by Jesus Christ's righteousness, so that we are born again by the Holy Spirit, and the void in our lives is filled by God’s presence. God’s love made us alive in Christ. Our brokenness is replaced by a new life in Jesus. Therefore, we proclaim that God loves people just as we are, but loves us too much to leave us where we are. (Genesis 1:26, 27; 3:1,24; John 3:1-18; Romans 3:25; 5:12-18; 1 John 1:8; Ephesians 2:5-6)
About the Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit has existed eternally and continually draws believers into a closer relationship with God. The Holy Spirit dwells in believers, enabling them to obey Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit equips believers by distributing gifts, enabling them to minister, serve, and be witnesses to the world of who Jesus is. Believers are to always seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we make room for the Holy Spirit to fill our lives with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (John 16:5-15; Romans 8:16, 23, 26, 27; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31).
About Ordinances
We believe that baptism and communion are two ordinances the Lord has given the Church. The preferred form of baptism we practice is believer’s baptism by immersion. We celebrate together in communion Jesus’ victory over sin and death, and our new life in Jesus. (Baptism: Acts 2:38-41; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 8:26-40; 10:47; 18:8; Romans 6:3-4. Communion: Acts 2:42-46; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29)
About the Church
We believe that the Church is comprised of those who believe by faith in Jesus. Every believer is indispensable, and though they function differently, every believer has a function in the body of Christ as they are gifted by the Holy Spirit. The task of the Church is to be Jesus’ hands and feet in our communities by serving people, by loving people, and sharing the extravagant love of God with the broken and lost world around us. Therefore, we act as witnesses of God’s mercy and love by serving people in the community where we live and sharing the good news of Jesus with them. (Romans 12:4-6; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6; Ephesians 2:19-22; 4:12-16; Hebrews 10:24-25)
At Cle Elum Community Church, all are welcome to attend, explore, and take steps of faith toward a deep, abiding relationship with Jesus. We acknowledge that doubts and questions about faith are a normal part of spiritual growth, and we do not claim to have all the answers. We do proclaim, however, that all the answers can be found in the person of Jesus.
